Embryo transfer is often known as the last step, but for most patients pursuing IVF or surrogacy this actually feels like the first part of the hardest road: the wait. At Ekmi Fertility, we know how well these two weeks can lead to a lot more anxiety than the whole treatment beforehand. Whether you’re planning to carry the pregnancy yourself via IVF or with a gestational surrogate, our team stays with you during this waiting period because we know how even a little reassurance makes all the difference.

The First Few Days
Immediately after transfer, your body (or your surrogate’s) is quietly completing the most important part of the entire process. This is where the power of patience matters more than anything else.
- Some mild cramping or light spotting is common, and not usually a cause for concern
- We recommend adequate rest after the procedure, but strict bed rest is not necessary
- Continued progesterone support allows the uterine lining to retain the embryo
- Avoid strenuous activity, but light walking is alright
The hormone levels are closely monitored during this window by our fertility specialist team – adapting the medicine needed instead of leaving you guessing.
The Two-Week Wait
This stretch tests everyone. Patients tell us this is the emotional peak of all their treatment – more than the injections, more than the procedures. We remain available throughout, as no one should have to sit with that unknown feeling alone. By day 10-14, a blood test will tell you if implantation has taken place. Even if you’re with us via a surrogacy program, your surrogate mother is similarly monitored and you are updated at every point, so distance never becomes disconnection.
If the Test Is Positive
Upon a confirmed pregnancy, you enter a new level of care. An ultrasound done around 6-7 weeks to see if there is a heartbeat, hormonal support continued if necessary, and then eventual hand over to obstetric care when things have stabilized. This is also when surrogacy agreements and parentage paperwork normally starts. Our legal team leads you through the process so you’re never left trying to understand surrogacy laws on your own.
If the Test Is Negative
This is not easy to hear, and we are definitely not rushing this conversation. We have our doctors spend time with you to dig into the how and why things happened, so that we can hopefully change next cycle through protocol changes or transferring higher quality embryos at the right time. Many of our guaranteed surrogacy program patients specifically choose that route because they had a disappointing IVF result and this provided more certainty moving forward.

FAQs
Q: When should I take a pregnancy test after embryo transfer?
A home urine test taken this early can give misleading results, so we recommend having a blood test between days 10 and 14.
Q: How much does the surrogacy cost at Ekmi Fertility?
Prices are different for surrogacy packages and depend on the health care needed. This means our team gives you a straightforward, itemized breakdown in your initial consultation.
Q: Is commercial surrogacy legal in India?
Current surrogacy laws permit only altruistic surrogacy for couples who meet the eligibility criteria. Our legal advisors assist you with your eligibility and compliance.
Q: What if the embryo transfer is unsuccessful?
Depending on the situation, our highly trained fertility specialists analyze your cycle in-depth with you and prepare for what comes next.
